Assingment Number 3

In my memo I chose to write about the traffic scenario. My decision was influenced by the accident that took the life of a young student whom went to the school. This incident took place directly across the street from the school. Traffic and pedestrian safety have been a problem around the schools perimeter for quiet some time. Now that a life has been taken you would assume that such a action would prompt a response from security and police. However things have been pretty much them same around campus. So I took this opportunity to shed some light on the situation. Also as students I think were responsible for our safety so, our ideas for was to improve on safety conditions will be considered.
Traffic congestion, road rage, speeding, and pedestrians that like to cross when they are not supposed to is a constant problem all over the world. So my solution is one that is already being used in some places. Mainly busy intersections such as the ones around LaGuardia. I proposed we install Radar speed sings, speed bumps, and some cross walk lighting systems. That way we will decrease speeds around the school, keep drivers alert, and make crossing the street possible for everyone.
When I began to write my memo it came to me as second nature. I believe this is due to already having knowledge of traffic problems from every day life. From being on both sides of the fence. Knowing what both drivers and pedestrians face on a day to day basis.
I don't do much writing regularly. How ever I find technical writing(writing a memo) to be a lot easier that writing an essay. Perhaps because it more direct and the thing your writing about you actually care about. You don't have to read some long boring book.
Now here is a piece from my memo!

NYC is the fourth metropolitan area in the United States. There are myriads of reasons why traffic congestion happens. Perhaps construction is going on, theirs an accident, a sick motorist, or a car could have broken down. Some issues are unavoidable however, we can control the safety precautions and create alternatives to ensure that if unforeseen things do occur, we will still be in good shape and also have a backup plan. Some reported effects of traffic congestion are road rage which can potentially be dangerous, personal loss of time causing many to be late to their destinations, and pollution due to high gear shift of the engine.

NYC is one of the most traffic congested cities that do offer commuting options to some of the population. Still that’s not enough! Even these transportation alternatives are overcrowded during these rush hours. It seems as though we cannot escape this nightmare so I’ve come up with a number of suggestions to our problem.

We need to implement fare lanes. This will cause drivers to pay a toll for the space they are using to drive. This fee will be waived or void for those who drive in the carpool lanes. This will reduce the amount of cars on the road. These tolls should be in affect during certain time frames
